M92
About this image
M92 is a bright globular cluster in the constellation Hercules, often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour, M13. This image reveals a tightly packed core containing thousands of ancient stars, gradually spreading into the surrounding darkness. At around 27,000 light-years away and more than 12 billion years old, M92 is one of the oldest objects in our galaxy.
